Description
Yosemite Falls is, of course, one of the most iconic images of the Western US. On cold clear nights, spray from the falls not only condenses on the granite face of the cliff, but can freeze into giant sheets of thin ice. In the morning, the sun illuminates the ice to a brilliant white against the dark granite. As the rock warms, the sheets of ice break free and fall, accenting the constant noise of the waterfall with periodic cracking and crashing sounds.
If you look closely near the bottom left of the flowing water, you can see a few of these shards of ice sheet breaking free and falling. It was a pretty amazing sight.
