Description
A "Super Moon" is generally defined as the coincidence of a new moon or full moon with the closest approach of the moon's elliptical orbit with the earth. One of these occured on Sept 9, 2014 during one of my small boat / kayak trips in Puget Sound.
I had made my camp on a narrow beach between Snoring Bay and Mud Bay on Sucia Island, one of the gems in the San Juan Islands of Washington state. As the evening progressed, it became apparent that this full super moon was going to rise exactly above the entrance to this narrow bay.
I set up the camera on its tripod, set a narrow aperture to maximize the depth of field, and released the shutter to capture this image. The sea and wind were calm and the light was sweet and soft. Within moments, the fading light of day went to complete dark and the scene went black apart from the light of the moon. Nice.
