Description
Late afternoon sun illuminates this scene with nearly horizontal light. Madrona trees are common in coastal regions of North America and are remarkable for their rich orange and red bark that peels off in sheets to reveal a smooth satin-like yellow wood surface. In British Columbia, they are simply known by their genus name "arbutus."
In this black and white image, the reddish yellow bark and wood of the madrona seems to glow in the low angle warm light of the late afternoon sun.
